Folsom, CA Community

National Teacher Appreciation Week is rolling into Folsom, California, from May 5 to May 9, and it’s time to roll out the red carpet for the real stars of our community- our teachers. Forget the Oscars. This week, the spotlight is on the folks who can juggle lesson plans, parent emails, and a classroom full of energetic students, all before their second cup of coffee.

A Brief History: Why Do We Celebrate?

Teacher Appreciation Week didn’t just pop up out of nowhere. Back in 1953, Eleanor Roosevelt convinced Congress that teachers deserved their own day of recognition. It took a few decades (and a lot of patience, something teachers know well) before the National PTA made it a week-long event in May. Since 1985, the first full week of May has been dedicated to saying thanks to the educators who shape our future, one student at a time.

Folsom Teachers: The Heart of Our Schools

In Folsom, teachers are more than just instructors. They’re coaches, mentors, cheerleaders, and sometimes, unofficial snack distributors. Whether it’s helping a student finally “get” fractions or encouraging a shy kid to speak up, their impact stretches far beyond the classroom walls.

Teachers in Folsom don’t just teach; they inspire, guide, and empower. They show up early, stay late, and always seem to have a stash of extra pencils (and patience). Their dedication keeps our schools running and our kids thriving.

How to Show Your Appreciation (No Apples Required)

Sure, apples are classic, but let’s get creative. Here are some fun, heartfelt ways to say “thank you” to Folsom’s teachers this week:

Write a Gratitude Letter: A simple note from a student or parent can mean the world. Share a favorite memory or just say thanks for being awesome.

Create a Thank-You Book: Gather messages and drawings from the whole class. Bonus points for glitter and stickers.

Decorate Their Classroom Door: Surprise your teacher with a door makeover. Think bright colors, positive messages, and maybe a few inside jokes.

Host a Breakfast or Lunch: Nothing says “we appreciate you” like free bagels and coffee. Organize a staff breakfast or lunch to bring everyone together.

Public Shout-Outs: Post a thank-you message on the school’s social media, newsletter, or even the morning announcements. Teachers deserve their moment in the sun.

Wall of Thanks: Set up a bulletin board where students, parents, and staff can leave sticky notes with messages of gratitude. Watch it fill up with positivity all week long.

Daily Surprise Drawings: Organize small daily raffles for gift cards, treats, or even a coveted “extra planning period” coupon.

PowerSchool’s Power of Impact Awards: Folsom Teachers, Take the Stage!

This year, Folsom teachers have a special reason to celebrate. PowerSchool, based right here in Folsom, has launched the Power of Impact Awards-a nationwide contest to honor K-12 teachers making a difference in their schools and communities.

Here’s how it works:

  • Teachers can nominate themselves by sharing how they make an impact.
  • The public votes for their favorite educators.
  • The top three teachers win cash prizes: $10,000 for first place, $5,000 for second, and $2,500 for third.

It’s a chance for Folsom teachers to get the recognition (and maybe a little extra spending money) they deserve. If you know a teacher who goes above and beyond, encourage them to enter or cast your vote and help shine a spotlight on Folsom’s finest.

Why Teacher Appreciation Week Matters

When teachers feel valued, everyone wins. A simple “thank you” can boost morale, build stronger relationships, and create a positive school culture. Students learn the power of gratitude, and teachers are reminded that their hard work doesn’t go unnoticed.

In Folsom, showing appreciation isn’t just a one-week affair. It’s about building a community where teachers feel supported all year long. But this week, let’s go all out. Let’s fill classrooms with laughter, hallways with thank-you notes, and maybe even the staff lounge with a few extra treats.

Folsom: Proud Home of Outstanding Educators

Folsom isn’t just known for its history and beautiful trails; it’s a place where teachers make a difference every single day. This Teacher Appreciation Week, let’s celebrate the educators who make our schools and our city a better place. Whether it’s a heartfelt note, a decorated door, or a vote in the Power of Impact Awards, every gesture counts.

Here’s to Folsom’s teachers, the real MVPs of May (and every month after).
